November Rain! Kink Ador in the writing room

We are back from the East coast tour and have been spending our time in Nashville in our downtown rehearsal room writing new material that will be released in the new year. But before I start gushing about the new music we've been working on, I wanted to show you some photographs, in particular I think this photograph sums up the wonderful adventures that me, Nicklas, and Caleb had over those many weeks on the road.  Somewhere in week 4 we were in Philadelphia and got to meet up with a photographer friend Paul Esposito, we spent the afternoon picking apples. There was something totally random and totally wonderful about that day, the band was in full tour mode and living moment to moment and enjoy every second of it.

more photos after the jump. - Sharon

finished tracking on 3 new songs

1. Apollo in Love
2. Synethesia (Everybody Really Wants to)
3. Into Us

We started recording these 3 tracks a couple weeks ago... over a weekend, we did all the instrumental tracking live at 16 Ton Studios with Michael Esser engineering and Stinson, of Radical Notion, producing the session. It was an intense couple of days and we captured some stellar performances by the band. I loved tracking the songs live; the music has a sense of urgency that makes the emotion come through the tape (yes we tracked the band live to tape...mmm analog). Then, we decided to do all the vocals in a more intimate setting. We just finished tracking all the vocals for these 3 songs yesterday at Stinson's apartment in Nashville. We managed to borrow my favorite recording vocal mic, the Electro-Voice RE20  from a friend of Nick's (thank you!) That mic gives a sexy response to my huge voice.

All that we've got left to do on these songs is some backing vocals... I'll keep you posted on when we are doing those. - sharon

in the meantime check out the mentions:

Cat Fight Night! Review in Brite Revolution by Jamie McCormick

Here is an excerpt from Jamie McCormick's article about the Cat Fight Night at Mercy Lounge June 2nd, 2011.

"Longtime favorites Kink Ador took the helm next, transporting the audience to a whole new realm. Complete with dramatic pauses, costume changes and a languorous dream sequence somewhere in the middle, the set unfolded like a living movie—the kind that would make your desert island list. Lead vocalist, guitarist and trumpeter Sharon Koltick gave a dramatic monologue, “educating” the crowd about the meaning behind one song. Her reasoning behind the longwinded explanation: “Knowledge is power, and power is sexy.”

Koltick told me, “At the end of the day, we want to take your troubles away for that little bit that we're together, put some positive energy into your life. We want everybody in that room to just be there with us in that moment and just really have that vacation.” And it would seem that the crowd enjoyed their getaway, singing along with the last song, which included a bouncy, chant-worthy hook created for audience participation. Even after the final note ceased to ring, the crowd continued to sing that hook to the beat of the house music. "

I Am Animal - watch on youtube

Watch the latest from Kink Ador.

The song, Animal, featured in this video, has become the band's signature song with its unique lyrics and funky vocal melodies. The trumpet and horn sounds accent the bands high energy, and musicality. The classic testosterone fueled guitar solo, swampy drum beats, and tight funky bass line originally made this song resonate with fans. The song was originally recorded and produced by the band for their release "I Am Animal."

On this version of the song, Kink Ador teamed up with record producer Craig A. King ( Ludacris, Aaliyah, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, http://wp.craigaking.com/ ) to bring an even brighter and tighter energy to the song.

This video, "I Am Animal" was directed by Skyler Procter, the same director Kink Ador worked with to create the award winning music video for the original version of the song "Animal" in 2009.

The video features the Kink Ador trio - Sharon Koltick, Brad Naylor, and Andrew Sovine.

The sound of the band has been compared to the Neon Trees, Eagles of Death, the Police, Lady Gaga, and the Muppet Show, the Kings of Leon, and Paramore.
